Geology Laboratory Facility

We are equipped with a state-of-the-art strong acid chemical laboratory for dissolution of silicate rocks, standard heavy liquid separation and related geochronological sample preparation work. We are also equipped with standard rock crushing and mineral separation facilities.
Our geochronological work focusses on sample preparation, mineral separation and powder production for AMS-analysis for cosmogenic radionuclide and radiocarbon geochronology, and 40Ar/39Ar geo- and thermochronology.
The department also owns two thermal ionization mass spectrometers that are used for Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, U-Pb, and Re-Os analysis.
